Visual Perception

Visualizing a slice through a simulated supernova collapse using Stevens dots, whose positions are carefully chosen to generate the perception of flow direction

A critical visualization goal is the presentation of data in ways that are informative and meaningful, one the one hand, yet intuitive and accessible on the other. This project investigates how the low-level human visual system directs attention to acquire and recall information. Results are use to design visualization tools that allow rapid, accurate, and effortless visual exploration.
